
On 15th October, 2019 at 10.00 am on Tuesday, the International Rural Women’s Day was organized with the initiative of Gopalganj district Bangladesh Sramajibi Nari (BSN), Bangladesh Youth Farmers Association (BYFA), All Bangla Farmers Association (ABFA), All Bangla Fishermen’s Association (ABFMA) and Labour Resource Center (LRC). The theme of this year was “The Role of Rural Women in Preserving Traditional Seeds is Being Destroyed by The Introduction of Golden Rice and GMO.” Among the activities conducted were human chain, rally and discussion meeting held in Gopalganj district.
Leaders from the various organizations voiced out their concerns regarding the erosion of traditional seeds and the threats that GMOs pose to the conservation and use of these seeds. Among the speakers are National Committee member of LRC Nani Bala; Mr. Lal Bahadur Biswas, President of LRC Sir Upazila Committee; General Secretary Somir Bala; Bangladesh Youth Farmers Association’s Vice President Ripon Kabiraj; Sadhna Biswas, President of Bangladesh Shramjibi Nari’s Upazila Committee; Thakur Das Adhikari, President of the All Bangla Farmers Association; General Secretary of the All Bangla Farmers Association Upazila Committee Nilratan Sen; LRC Tangipara Upazila Women Committee President Shantilata Baroi; General Secretary Anima Rani Bain; Member Susunta Karmakar and President of 5 Union Committee of Tangipara upazila and general secretary. LRC general secretary Mr. Shibli Aonwar spoke as the chief guest at the Human Chain and Discussion Meeting. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Shubita Roy, President Bangladesh Sramajibi Nari.#
