Farmer-led Alternative Markets: advancing campaigns for farmers’ rights, strengthening local economies

The Green Action Week is far from over as friends from different sectors gather at the Agroecology fair at UP Diliman. Farmers, artisans, and peasant organizations staged local, organic produce while amplifying campaigns for food sovereignty and agroecology.

With the worsening food crisis, it is imperative that the people are well aware of people’s right to food. Having said that, people must work collectively for the assertion of food being safe, sufficient, accessible, and affordable. Establishing local markets is one.

Localized markets would create and ensure just, socialized pricing; lesser food miles; healthy and direct farmer-consumer relation.
